The Bellingham Youth Jazz Band, directed by Mark Kelly, presents an hour of big band jazz. Thirty 6th- to 9th-grade musicians from 10 Bellingham and Whatcom County schools play jazz standards by composers Gershwin, Ellington, Waller and others. Mark Kelly, a graduate from WWU music department, started the BYJB in 1997. He coaches and conducts jazz and classical ensembles and still finds time to play in many local and regional bands.
