Peter Coyle

As the vocalist for the Lotus Eaters, Peter Coyle witnessed a brief flicker of fame when the band's first single, "The First Picture of You," sold more than 100,000 copies in England. The song's popularity earned Coyle and guitarist Jeremy Kelly some magazine covers. However, when the group released their debut LP, No Sense of Sin, a year later, many music fans had already become disinterested. Coyle's anguished singing on the Lotus Eaters' 1985 single, "It Hurts," unveiled his maturing vocal style,… Show more evolving from the adolescent romantic longing of No Sense of Sin to a harrowed croon. But "It Hurts" was again received with indifference, and the band quit recording. Coyle then released two solo albums, A Slap in the Face for Public Taste and I'd Sacrifice Eight Orgasms With Shirley MacLaine Just to Be There. He also co-wrote "All I Want" and "Control the Flame" with Ian Broudie on the Lightning Seeds' Cloudcuckooland album. Morever, Coyle founded the dance company 8 Productions; however, despite a few chart hits, it folded along with his own nightclub, G Love. Coyle also appeared in the video of China Crisis' Acoustically Yours, performing "Here Come a Raincloud." In the late '90s, Coyle reunited with Kelly in the Lotus Eaters, finally producing a follow-up to No Sense of Sin.
