Schooner Adventuress Centennial

In February 1913, the Auxiliary Schooner Adventuress was launched at the Rice Brothers Yard in East Boothbay Maine. This fine schooner yacht was designed by b.b.crowninshield and commissioned by Mr. John Borden of Chicago for a voyage to Alaska and the Arctic to collect marine mammal specimens for the American Museum of Natural History in New York. During these past 60 years, the schooner Adventuress has become a familiar and welcome sight to sailors in our local waters, her fine lines gracing the sound. The sight has inspired many a youth to come aboard to learn the timeless lessons of seamanship, leadership, navigation, community, and environmental stewardship. She has been designated a National Historic Landmark Vessel and is recognized as Puget Sound’s Environmental Tall Ship.

Each month CWB finds a speaker of wit and experience to talk about his or her special knowledge. It is also an opportunity for CWB members to meet one another and the staff. Admission is free and refreshments are served (donations to cover costs are appreciated).
