Confronting Global Climate Change in the Pacific Northwest

Confronting Global Climate Change in the Pacific Northwest

Talks/Lectures, Green/Environmental
Bellingham City Club hosts Dr. Richard Gammon addressing how to confront global climate change in the Pacific Northwest at their monthly program. The presentation follows lunch shared with fellow community members at Northwood Hall Event Center. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and tickets are available via Brown Paper Tickets and on our website at bellinghamcityclub.org. How is our changing climate impacting the Pacific Northwest? The Northwest’s economy, infrastructure, natural systems, public health, fishing industry and vitally important agriculture sector all face important climate change related risks. Dangers of these impacts demand assessment and action. What can we do? Dr. Richard Gammon is Professor (Emeritus) of Chemistry and Oceanography, and Adjunct Professor (Emeritus) of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Washington. Dr. Gammon received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Harvard University (1970). He co-authored the first scientific assessment by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 1990). As Chief of the Carbon Dioxide Program, he directed the U.S. government’s program to globally monitor atmospheric CO2. Dr. Gammon taught undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry, oceanography, atmospheric science, bio-geochemical cycles, and climate change. His research emphasized the measurement and interpretation of atmospheric trace gases critical to climate change. He maintains an active program of presentations to inform the general public about climate change science.
