The 2020 Friday Harbor Virtual Film Festival kicks off on Saturday, October 10 with the FREE on-demand screening of 10 short films entered into the Student Film Competition. These films, submitted from around the world, will be available through October 25. Full details about the films and how to view them is available at www.fhff.org.
Don’t miss viewing the Spring Street International School students’ entry, The Peel Out. It was filmed by Tawan Edholm (Director). Bradley Bennett (Producer), and William Hagman (Videographer).
Other films entered include: Aquamara by Eduardo Vitorbori, AYEO by Jacob Updyke, The Flow Effect by Lachlan Henry, Hackers: The Misfit Superheroes by Ethan Wilk, Hamsters and Friends by Madelyn Cross, Lactose Intolerant by James Brammer, My Body Is the Land by Greer Fawcett, One Minute to Midnight by James Brammer, and Stomach of the Earth by Maxfield Biggs.
Audience members will vote for their favorite student films. The winners in two age categories (ages 11-17 and 18-26) will receive the Laszlo Pal Emerging Filmmaker Award at the closing event of the Festival on Sunday, October 25.
Thanks to the generosity of part-time islanders and enthusiastic film festival supporters Suzy Mygatt Wakefield and Jay Wakefield, all films entered in the Student Film Competition will be available FREE for everyone to screen. The Wakefield’s want to introduce students to the art of filmmaking by viewing their peers’ work, while also encouraging family viewing of thoughtful documentary programming, and inspiring interest in the films FHFF offers.
